Aboriginal Weaving Workshops and Cultural Education

Who are we

Malima connects individuals, organisations, schools and communities with local Traditional Owners and knowledge holders to deliver authentic Aboriginal Cultural Education.

Through Malima, we share the cultural knowledge, stories and practices that have been passed down through our family for generations. There was a time when our old people were prohibited from speaking language, practising culture and sharing knowledge. The fear of punishment meant that much of our community’s cultural knowledge was lost. We are privileged to carry the knowledge that our family was able to protect and preserve through the assimilation era, and we are committed to ensuring it continues to be shared with future generations.

Our workshops provide opportunities for people to learn directly from Aboriginal knowledge holders in a respectful and culturally safe environment. By sharing our stories and cultural practices, we foster a deeper understanding of Aboriginal culture while contributing to the ongoing revitalisation and preservation of our cultural heritage.

Our family has deep, traditional connections to Sydney Harbour, Botany Bay, and Georges River, where we have lived, worked, and cared for this country for generations. We have further cultural connections across NSW and Victoria.

What we offer is the wisdom and practices that have been entrusted to us by our elders. We understand and respect that others may have different knowledge, but this is what we know and hold dear. Our teachings are a direct reflection of our family's heritage, and we are honoured to share this with you.
